What the Goddesses Had to Say

** "God may be in the details, but the goddess is in the questions. Once we begin to ask them, there’s no turning back." - Gloria Steinem

This quote for me is fabulous and sassy and speaks from a strong woman -- the goddess I see agreeing with these words would be Artemis.

++ "I want to be an outrageous old woman who never gets called an old lady. I want to get leaner & meaner, sharp edged & earth colored, till I fade away from pure joy."

from a plaque in a mail order catalog : Kali, the Hindu goddess of death & destruction, perhaps ??

++ "The walls we build around us to keep out the sadness also keep out the joy." -Jim Rohn.

When I found this quote it reminded me greatly of  Demeter's period of grief for her lost daughter.

Ralph Waldo Emerson said,
++  "What lies behind us and lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us."

Although these words could have been spoken by any goddess, this quote reminds me of something Sophia, the Goddess of Wisdom also known as Asherah/Chokmah/ Hecate/Lilith, might say. We grow in knowledge along the way, but without wisdom, what good is that knowledge? Sophia's spark, inner wisdom, is within us. It is what enables us to overcome the past and face the future. HINT: It's also known as "feminine intuition". All we must do to access it is to listen, know, and be true to our selves and our own inner goddess, whatever we may call her!

This sounds like something Athena, the Warrior Goddess and patroness of art and civilization, would have said:

** "Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure . . . than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat."

--Theodore Roosevelt

Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. (Helen Keller)
~ might have been said by
Artemis
~~

One of my favorite quotes is by Wayne Dyer. He said: "There is no way to happiness. Happiness IS the way."

The
goddess Tara might have said that.

Persephone: “Because I could not stop for Death, He kindly stopped for me; The carriage held but just ourselves, and Immortality.”

"Dying is a wild night and a new road.” (quotes by Emily Dickinson)

All our dreams can come true,
if we have the courage to pursue them.

~Walt Disney~

This could have been the mantra of the Goddess Psyche. She faced so much adversity, so many challenges, but she kept her courage and ended up a big winner!

"I shall live in Harmony with this Life, and it shall flow through me and bring me Joy."

Iris, Goddess of the Rainbow

"Look Within, Trust Within"

I believe this is something Gaia would say.

I like the quote from Mae West-

"When I'm good, I'm very good, but when I'm bad, I'm better." I think this would fit the Goddess Kali very aptly.

This is for the goddess Lakshmi:

Lady Luck generally woos those who earnestly, enthusiastically, unremittingly woo her.

-B.C. Forbes

Ah...so true.

"Hey, Energy sucker! I'm a goddess, not your mother."
-Luscious Jackson

Can't you see Aphrodite saying this to a woeful suitor?

I have always liked this quote by Margaret Thatcher "I am extraordinarily patient, provided I get my own way in the end."
This would be something that Gaia would say. And it is true, no matter how we try and alter the Earth, she always does or gets what she wants anyway. She is just being patient with us!!!

Death borders upon our birth, and Our cradle stands in the grave. Our birth is nothing but our death begun.

--Bishop Hall

Morbid I know, but it reminds me of the goddess Freya. She embodies a duality being a fertility/childbirth goddess as well as a consort for those dying and entering 'Valhalla'

"Compassion is the antitoxin of the soul: where there is compassion even the most poisonous impulses remain relatively harmless."
Eric Hoffer (American Writer, 1902-1983)

This sounds to me like something Kuan Yin would have said. Love and peace,

The Goddess Fortune is the devil's servant, ready to kiss anyone's ass.
(William Blake)

I will submit not a quote, but the anti-quote:
the wisdom found in Frigga's silence
(and grace, when you think on it).

From the Bitch Song by Meredith Brooks:

"I'm a bitch, I'm a tease, I'm a goddess on my knees; when you hurt, when you suffer, I'm your angel under cover..."

Aphrodite is definitely dancing and singing along to this one!

I also liked a quote from Mae West
'I used to be Snow White, but I drifted.'

Kakia was a seductress. She was a Goddess of Vice greek. Tlazolteotl (Lust-Goddess):Aztec DAHUD- celtic

However I think this my most favourite qoute. Its by Martin Luther King Jr. 1929 to 1968.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.

And my Goddess who would have said that is Freya (Frigga)  On the South Downs, West Sussex, England, there is an ancient well dedicated to her, and me, like her son, was born on the longest night, Mother Night.

"There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy."
Hamlet - William Shakespeare

This sounds like Cerridwen speaking to those with their minds closed to magic, wonder and divinity.

I love this quote from Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis:

I am a woman above everything else.

Although every Goddess could be seen saying it, I can just see Isis saying this. She was so many things to so many people but She never forgot what it meant to be a woman.
